My name is Muhammad Ali Babar. I am a Professor of Software Engineering with the School of Computer Science of the University of Adelaide, Australia. I also hold an honorary professorship with the Nanjing University Software Institute. Previously, I was an academic position with the IT University of Copenhagen, Denmark. After joining the University of Adelaide, Prof Babar has established an interdisciplinary research centre, CREST – Centre for Research on Engineering Software Technologies, where I lead the research and research training of more than 14(8 PhD students) members. The Centre for Research on Engineering Software Technologies (CREST) aims at supporting collaborative research between Australian and European Researchers. I also held a Reader in Software Engineering with the School of Computing and Communication at Lancaster University, UK. From March 2007 to November 2009, I worked as a senior researcher and project leader with Lero, the Irish Software Engineering Research centre, University of Limerick, Ireland, where I set up and led a team of post-doctoral researchers and PhD students to carry out research on software architecture and empirical evaluation of software development technologies in the area of software product lines.
Before moving to Ireland, I was a researcher with National ICT Australia (NICTA) , where I initiated several research and development activities in the areas of software architecture evaluation, architectural knowledge management, and process improvement using empirical methods. During my stay with NICTA from March 2003 to March 2007, I was involved in designing and developing various methods and tools in the area of software architecture knowledge management, which attracted industrial interest and funding.
I started my career as a researcher with JRCASE, a joint research centre of CSIRO and Macqurie University, Australia, where I was a senior research officer from January 2001 to March 2003. Before joining the research and development field, I worked as a software engineer and an IT consultant for several years in Australia.
I obtained a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from the school of computer science and engineering of Univeristy of New South Wales. I obtained a M.Sc. degree in Computing Sciences from University of Technology, Sydney, Australia. You can reach me at ali.babar(at)adelaide.edu.au.
